Today, President Trump signed an Executive Order that instructs the Department of Interior to review offshore drilling locations and begin streamlining regulation governing offshore development. In response, IADC President Jason McFarland issued the following statement:

“Secretary Perry has a successful history of supporting oil and gas development, while also encouraging the development of renewable energy sources, and he is therefore well suited in his new role at the DOE. IADC specifically hopes to work with Secretary Perry to ensure a more timely review of LNG export permits and on revitalizing the Fossil Office within the Department.

“It is the mandate of the Department of Interior to develop the tremendous natural resources within the U.S., and to ensure that this is done in a safe and environmentally sound manner. IADC looks forward to working with Secretary Zinke and his staff on a wide variety of issues including the BSEE Well Control Rule, BOEM’s Air Quality Rule, BLM’s Hydraulic Fracturing Rule and other issues related to contractor liability and financial assurance.

The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) is hosting an “IADC Onshore Drilling 101” Lunch and Learn event at noon today at 406 Dirksen/EPW Committee Hearing Room. Onshore IADC members will present information about the role of the drilling contractor in the well construction process and will present industry safety data and feature a discussion on environmental stewardship.

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of H.J.RES. 38 which is a Congressional Review Act resolution to nullify U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) rule, “Waste Prevention, Production Subject to Royalties, and Resource Conservation.” This rule regulated methane emissions via venting and flaring limitations on public and Indian lands. Today, the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources voted to advance President Trump’s nomination of Rick Perry for Secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE) and Ryan Zinke for Secretary of the Department of Interior to the full U.S. Senate for confirmation.
