University of Wyoming Student Chapter Visits NOV & Taktikal Directional

In November, the IADC University of Wyoming Student Chapter had the opportunity to visit both the NOV and Taktikal Directional facilities in Casper, Wyoming.

At NOV, the students got an inside look at a range of complete tool technologies, including liner hanger systems, packers, frac plugs, toe sleeves, etc. The shop also focuses on the drilling and downhole side, where the students learned about motors, power sections, bearing assemblies, and the customization options available to tailor the right BHA for each job.

Taktikal Directional showcased their MWD tool and walked the group through its operation. The students gained valuable insights into their process for disassembling, inspecting, and ensuring each tool is ready for the field. They also learned how MWD hands in the field use and interpret the tool’s parameters to successfully execute jobs.

Thank you to Ian Farrell, Brett Nanooch, Colton Burkett, and the entire NOV team, as well as to Nate Love, Dave Harry, and everyone at Taktikal Directional for making these visits so insightful for our students!
