UTP Student Chapter Organizes Industrial Visit to Solar Alert

The IADC Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Student Chapter recently organized an industrial visit to Solar Alert, a global wellhead solutions provider serving the oil and gas industry. During the visit, 30 students from UTP’s Petroleum Engineering Department had the opportunity to gain first-hand industry exposure.

Students gained valuable technical knowledge on surface wellheads and their variations, tree components, gate valves, and the engineering design processes involved in wellhead systems. They were introduced to how engineering considerations such as pressure containment, material selection, operational safety, and equipment reliability play a crucial role in the development of wellhead systems used in oil and gas operations.

In addition, students were also exposed to the manufacturing process, where they learned about the workflow involved in fabricating and assembling wellhead equipment, including machining, inspection, quality control, testing procedures, and equipment preparation before deployment to the field. The session also highlighted the importance of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) practices implemented throughout the workplace to ensure safe and efficient operations.

One of the highlights of the visit was the warehouse tour, where participants were able to observe equipment handling, operational workflow, and manufacturing activities in a real industrial environment. The experience truly served as a bridge between classroom theories and practical industry applications.
