IADC Hosts Educational Event for Rystad Energy Interns

On July 30-31, IADC welcomed 20 young professionals and interns from Rystad Energy to the Houston office for a two-day learning event. Rystad Energy is a research and energy intelligence company, and their team came to learn more about oil and gas production basics.

Day One: Classroom Learning

IADC staff led presentations and discussions covering “Upstream Industry 101” topics. They explained how onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration works, covering everything from daily operations to new technologies and how the industry works to be a responsible partner in communities. The participants asked great questions about operations, investment decisions, cutting-edge technology, and the industry’s commitment to meeting high social and environmental standards.

Joe Lillis, IADC’s representative in Washington, D.C., joined the event in Houston to talk about his work as a lobbyist. He explained how he builds relationships with the presidential administration, Congress members, and their staff to support helpful legislation and regulations for IADC Member companies and the drilling industry. Joe also discussed DrillersPAC, IADC’s political action committee. The PAC raises money from Members and donates to campaigns and candidates who support the drilling industry.

Day Two: Hands-On Experience

The second day involved a field trip to the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum in Galveston, Texas. The Rystad team explored the museum exhibits and saw real drilling equipment up close, which helped bring the earlier discussions to life.

IADC was happy to partner with Rystad Energy on this educational exchange. These sessions give us a great chance to show young professionals what our industry is really about: safety, innovation, economic growth, and environmental responsibility.
