Advanced Rig Technology Committee to Hold Virtual Meeting on 31 August

The IADC Advanced Rig Technology Committee will hold its next meeting from 9-11am CDT on Monday, 31 August. The meeting will be held online only. To receive the Zoom link for the meeting, please register on IADC’s website.

The ART Committee, including its Data, Controls and Sensors (DCS) Subcommittee, works to improve safety and efficiency through sound operating procedures, design of automated systems and standardizing automation.

Since wrapping up the IADC DDR Plus project, the committee has turned its focus to the upcoming Rig Sensor Stewardship Guidelines. These guidelines aim to help rig owners, equipment vendors and service companies to ensure their sensors and instruments perform as intended on a continuous basis. The Rig Sensor Stewardship workgroup has been meeting throughout 2019 and 2020 to evaluate current rig sensor functions and generate new sensor maintenance guidelines to ensure reliable sensor performance.

Work also is continuing on the IADC Guidelines for Drilling Rig Supervisory Control Systems Minimum Safety Features. The document aims to make recommendations on safety features that should be employed in a drilling control system or rig supervisory control system to enhance safe operation of a rig, preventing drilling equipment-related collisions and human-induced machine damage events.
