The group of IADC Student Chapter Members that attended the IADC HSET Conference in Houston also had the opportunity to attend a separate technical event. The technical deep dive on the topic of shallow gas was co-hosted by IADC and the Society for Underwater Technology in the US (SUT-US). The informative session was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of shallow gas behavior, hazard assessment, and mitigation strategies.
During the event, attendees learned about:

- Methods and limitations of shallow gas identification and avoidance
- Drilling and cementing operational approaches and responses to mitigate risks
- Responses to unplanned events to ensure operational safety and long term well integrity
