The Positive Effects of a Bottom-up Approach to Safety: Thomas Koester, Human Factors Specialist, Noble
Taking a bottom-up approach to safety, involving the personnel in the frontline in discussions and reflections about safety, and in the co-creation of their work conditions, does not only have a positive effect on safety. It also has a positive on performance in general including quality and productivity. Further, it has a positive influence on the personnel’s motivation, engagement, and sense of ownership in relation to the work processes they are invited to co-create and develop through continuous improvements. The bottom-up approach supports a learning and sharing culture which is also contributing to the psychological safety in the work environment. This is a presentation about the positive effects of implementation of a bottom-up approach to safety in Noble, a journey which started in 2022, and how the empowerment of frontline personnel through co-reflection and co-creation contributes to their motivation, engagement, and a positive psychological work environment.

2:25 pm Latin America Drilling Forecast:  Well Mix and Potential Risks: Matt Hale, VP Oilfield Services Research, Rystad Energy
As we assess future demand for both oil and natural gas, operators must consider both the trajectory of demand growth and decline of existing fields to determine if new projects will come online in a time of oversupply or deficit. With a backlog of low-cost shelf and deepwater resources and some uncertainty around demand growth, major E&P companies are looking to develop and monetize greenfield discoveries as well as extensions of existing assets. At the same time, operators will look to maximize recovery from mature conventional fields. Therefore, drilling activity through the end of this decade will be a mix of limited exploration, greenfield offshore developments, subsea tiebacks, and onshore infill wells. Considering all these factors, our forecast reflects onshore and offshore capital expenditures on new wells by country as well as unit-based rig demand. Finally, we will highlight potential risks and how this could impair growth.

Case Studies & Contractors

2:45 pm Key Technologies to Maximize Performance and Minimize Risks in Integrated Services Drilling Projects: Andres Nunez, Integration Project Manager, Edison Barrera, Operations Integrity Manager, Mikhail Presniakov, Senior Well Engineer, Juan Ramon Lopez, SLB
Drilling operations at the Gulf of Mexico area, are characterized by the elevated geological uncertainty, which requires optimum engineering planning and early risks dentification. The objective of this presentation is to describe how different technologies were implemented to overcome the different challenges observed in a Deepwater campaign during two years of execution, including high inclination and the first horizontal well drilled in the area, resulting in high level of operations efficiency.

3:15 pm From Enabling to Optimizing with Controlled Mud Level MPD: Rudy Flores, Technical Sales Manager- Americas, Snorre Lutnes, Dave Smith, Enhanced Drilling
The Controlled Mud Level (CML) MPD technique is presented focusing on the development of its utilization. Initially, CML MPD was used as an enabling technology holding a Constant Bottom Hole Pressure (CBHP) to “Drill the Undrillable”. Today, the approach is beyond drilling, and based upon reducing well cost, improving safety, and increasing production. This presentation will describe the methodology of the CML technique and use case studies to exemplify how this method is used for extending sections, tripping safer and faster, and increasing production through Managed Pressure Completion.
