7:00 am Registration, Coffee Service & Exhibit Viewing Sponsored by Pason Systems Texas Ballroom 1-4 & Foyer
7:15 am Speaker Briefing (Speakers, Moderators & Session Chairs only) Texas Ballroom 5-7
8:00 am Introduction & Welcoming Remarks Texas Ballroom 5-7
- Thad Dunham, VP Government & Industry Affairs Onshore, IADC
- Philip Dalrymple, IADC Division VP North America Onshore; Senior Vice President, Operations, Independence Contract Drilling
8:10 am Chairman’s Address: Roddie MacKenzie, 2026 IADC Chair; EVP & Chief Commercial Officer, Transocean
8:25 am A Better Way to Shift Work: Steven W. Lockley, PhD, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist, Timeshifter
Applying advances in circadian science to improve sleep and quality of life while increasing safety, productivity and workforce stability. Dr. Lockley will provide actionable takeaways for safety, health and operational leaders seeking to reduce risk, protect their workforce, and improve performance, while acknowledging the biological limits of human adaptation to shift work.
9:00 am Beyond the Hardware: Strategy First, Equipment Second: Matt Kvalo, VP of Engineering and Technology, Stasis Drilling Solutions
MPD outcomes are constrained less by the tools on location than by intent, planning, and competency. Using the top drive as an analogy, this presentation shows that equipment only delivers true value only when workflows change with it. We’ll compare reactive and proactive planning approaches, emphasize the importance of a clearly defined MPD-to-well-control handoff, and review a U.S. basin heat map showing MPD mode selection and use frequency. We’ll close by linking training and IADC MPD WellSharp to execution readiness.
9:30 am Exhibit Viewing & Coffee Service Sponsored by Pason Systems
10:00 am Operator Panel
Moderator: Sherry Liu Hazlitt, Vice President – Land Rigs, Rystad Energy
Representatives of major operating companies will discuss the different types of drilling projects their companies are chasing: geothermal/non-hydrocarbon, carbon capture, lithium, helium.
11:00 am Emerging Technologies
Meeting the Power Challenge: How Onshore Drilling Rigs Are Adapting to Steadily Increasing Energy Demand: Marcel Snijder van Wissenkerke, Senior Manager, Product Development, Patterson-UTI
Power demand on onshore drilling rigs has increased significantly over the past 15 years, driven by longer laterals and advanced downhole tools. The session reviews the evolution of rig power systems and examines the drivers behind rising sustained and transient loads. The presentation also discusses challenges in adding generation capacity and explores alternative strategies, including energy storage, demand-offloading methods, and utility power integration, to meet future demand more efficiently. By reviewing historical trends and future projections, the discussion outlines practical pathways for designing and operating rig power systems capable of meeting the rigorous demands of future drilling environments.
Leveraging Grid Power to Reduce Drilling Costs and GHG Emissions: a Colorado Case Study: Michael Weidenfeller, Senior Strategy Consultant, Caterpillar Oil & Gas
This presentation will examine how grid power can be leveraged in drilling applications to reduce fuel cost and GHG emissions reductions even when 100% utility power isn’t available. New hybrid microgrid approaches that protect the grid from aggressive or unexpected power loads will also be shared to equip attendees with new methods that optimize drilling rig performance, safety and costs.
11:45 am Luncheon Lakeview
1:00 pm The Near & Far Future of Land Contract Drilling: Richard Spears, VP, Spears & Associates
1:30 pm Operator’s Outlook: Matt Hinson, VP Drilling and Completions, Devon Energy
An Operator with a multi basin presence across the U.S. will discuss their outlook, including anticipated equipment and workforce needs over the next several years.
2:00 pm Advancements in Equipment
Reducing Equipment Cost-of-Ownership through AI-Driven component Lifetime Optimization: Ashish Yadav, Director of Software, Amar Anand, Andy Wang, Prescient Devices, Inc., Russell Whitney, Nathan Reese, Precision Drilling
This presentation describes a data-driven framework for reducing drilling equipment cost-of-ownership by improving component lifetime utilization. The approach combines predictive maintenance, AI-based fatigue and lifetime models, and digital logbook workflows with automated telemetry. Applied to mud pump consumables across more than 120 rigs in multiple North American basins, the framework enables normalized lifetime analysis and objective comparisons across rigs. Results show that rigs using AI-guided lifetime estimates for replacement decisions consume 50–75% fewer components, significantly reducing consumables spend and improving operational cash flow.
