Case Study of Field Deployment of Annular Protector Technology (APT): Janine Nagle, Assistant Driller (Offshore Development Program), Craig McCormick, Transocean
Drilling shallow plugs with pressure below is a significant well control risk that is fully mitigated by using an Annular Protector Tool spaced across a closed and tested annular element, allowing rotation and reciprocation of the workstring with no drag or degradation of the annular element. No gas can enter the riser, allowing the bubble to be circulated out in a controlled manner, thus protecting the personnel and environment from negative consequences of drilling on an open annular or using an annular with reduced closing pressure. The annular protector tool is proven technology for well control, fracs, and displacement.
